D.I.Y. Pedestal Cake Stand

It's easy to make a cake stand using basic supplies.

Supplies

• Unfinished Wooden Tray
• Unfinished Wooden Candlestick
• Unfinished Wooden Plaque
• Decorative Metal Trim 
• Patterned Scrapbooking Paper
• Acrylic Paint
• Adirondack Alcohol Ink
• Mod Podge
• E-6000
• Tin Snippers or Utility Scissors
• Scissors
• Paintbrush

Before we get started, know that you can make a cake stand any way you want, as long as your top surface is large enough to hold the items you want and your base is sturdy.

If you have a very large or heavy top surface, we recommend using two candlesticks with a wide plaque to act as the base to support it.

Also, keep in mind that the cake stand is meant to be a decorative display to place a plate of sweet treats. Do not directly place food onto the cake pedestal as it is a non-food surface.

1.  Paint the wood candlestick and wood coaster or plaque in the desired color.

2.  Set them aside to let dry.

3.  Paint the underside and sides of the wood tray.

4.  Measure and cut paper to fit the top of the wood tray.

5.  Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the tray.

6.  Set aside to let dry.

Decorating the sides of the tray is optional. You can leave it painted, adhere it with paper, glitter or other embellishments. If you choose to add the metal trim, measure and cut the metal trim to fit the sides of the tray. Adhere the metal trim with E-6000 and use a rubber band to hold the trim in place as it dries or another item to "clamp" the trim down. Once the glue is dry, use a foam applicator to swipe alcohol ink in the color of your choice across the metal trim to give it color.

7.  Glue the bottom of the candlestick to the top of the wood coaster or plaque.

8.  Set the stand upside down for better adhesion as it dries.

9.  Let it dry completely before using.
