Friday Feature: Mod Podge Rocks!

Amy Anderson, the author of the Mod Podge Rocks! book, is a 30-something year old crafter that has been making things all her life. At 10 years old, she was forced to go to sewing camp, but it turned out to be the best thing her mother did for her. Since then, Amy has had a lifetime love of making things.

When she was 15, she learned how to knit and designed her own patterns for many years. Amy always dabbled in many crafts, which is how she came to love Mod Podge.

Once she tried it, she was hooked! Besides crafting and Mod Podge, Amy enjoys being outdoors, reading, and spending time with her pug, Roxie.

With the release of her Mod Podge Rocks! book, which is available at our Bonney Lake store, we wanted to know the story of how Mod Podge Rocks! began.

Mod Podge Rocks! features 40+ projects using Mod Podge!

What was your first experience using Mod Podge?

I had a friend teach me how to make a frame. She had a great time laughing at me as I proceeded to make a huge mess and wrinkle the paper! So much for following instructions! The process of Mod Podging isn't hard, but you have to listen when more experienced crafters have advice. Whoops! That has always been my downfall. That frame was a great learning experience for me, and even though it didn't turn out the way I planned, I had such a great time.

What makes Mod Podge so unique?

Besides being a great glue, sealer and finish, it is SO easy to use! There are definitely some tips and tricks, but you don't need to have years of classes or special machines to make something with it. You can just dig in! Plus, who doesn't love that retro logo? Even before I made anything with it, I was drawn to the logo. I love that it has been around for so long (45 years!).

How did the idea come about in making the Mod Podge Rocks! book?

People that try Mod Podge typically fally in love with it. As my blog grew more popular, it seemed that more and more people were trying it, and they wanted more and more ideas. So, that's what we did! The book is a collection of new projects from me and other talented artists who also love Mod Podge.

What can you tell people about the book?

It has a wide variety of projects, so there is a little something for everyone. There are also some great beginning projects (like the geek plates), so if you are a newbie, you can get used to using it before you tackle a larger or more difficult project.

Do you have a favorite project using Mod Podge?

I LOVE fixing up furniture with Mod Podge. I'm not one of those people who likes to break out the skill saw to re-haul something. I have a total respect for home improvement, but I like quick and dirty (otherwise known as easy). One of my favorites is this end table upcycle. Just a little paint, scrapbook paper and Mod Podge!

I also love bright wall art. I treasure this antique key art I made over. Anything with bright colors is so fun to make!

Here are a few projects from the Mod Podge Rocks! blog that were created with Mod Podge.
