How-to: Make a Geo Mesh Wreath

NOTE: THE GEO MESH PRODUCT IS NOT AVAILABLE AT OUR BEN FRANKLIN STORE ANY LONGER. This tutorial is used as a learning tool only.
-------------------------

Geo Mesh, also known as Poly Deco Mesh, Decor Mesh, and Floral Mesh, has been popularly used in making bold and beautiful wreaths.

Even though they may look a little intimidating, making a Geo Mesh Wreath is easier than it looks.

Supplies

  • 1 Roll of Geo Mesh
  • Wire Wreath Form
  • Chenille Pipe Cleaners
  • Scissors

All supplies for this project can be found at our Bonney Lake store.

You can choose to use a wire wreath forms or even a grapevine wreath to make your mesh wreath.

With a basic wire wreath form, pipe cleaners are used to secure the mesh.

Wire Wreath Form

Here is a wire wreath form that you would not have to use the pipe cleaners with since it has built in wires to secure the mesh.

Wire Wreath Form with Built-in Wires

If you choose to use a grapevine wreath, we would suggest using a thin wire to secure the mesh.

This tutorial is for a basic wire wreath--let's get started!

1.  Using the scissors, cut the chenille stems in half.
2.  Open the roll of mesh and starting at the beginning, gather a section to make a large pouf.
3.  Starting from the outer ring, use the pipe cleaner to tie it (using a twist action) to secure it to the wire wreath form.

Do not tie the pipe cleaner because it will be harder to untie if you need to redo or remove the mesh.

4.  Now, tie another pouf onto the inner part of the wire wreath form.
You will repeat a pattern of tying the mesh poufs to the outside ring, then inner ring until it's complete covered or when you have used all the mesh (whichever comes first).

Do not worry about how the poufs look or if you have any bare spots as you go along. When you are finished, you will go back to move and fluff the mesh. Remember, you can always remove the pipe cleaners and redo any area (or the entire wreath) if the desired look has not been achieved.

When you are done, you can either leave it as is, top it off with a bow, or decorate it.

The fun part of making mesh wreaths is that you can adorn them with practically anything you like and remove the items (if they are secured with pipe cleaners) to switch them out to coordinate with another occasion or holiday.
