How-to: Transform a Surface Into a Chalkboard

You can transform a wall, a cabinet, and most porous surfaces into a chalkboard using Americana's Clear Chalkboard Coating.

Americana Clear Chalkboard Coating

Not only does Americana's Clear Chalkboard Coating make it easy to turn almost any surface into a chalkboard, but you are no longer stuck with a basic black colored board.

Krystyn tried the Chalkboard Coating on paper and it turned out great! This tutorial is just one way you can use the Chalkboard Coating.

Crafted by Krystyn.

Supplies

  • Wood Panel
  • Americana Clear Chalkboard Coating
  • Patterned Scrapbooking Paper
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Adhesive
  • Chalk
  • Paintbrush

1.  Using the paintbrush, apply paint in the desired color to the "frame" of the panel.
2.  Set it aside to let dry.
3.  Adhere the patterned scrapbooking paper to the panel using adhesive.
4.  Set aside to let dry.
5.  When dry, use the paintbrush to apply one coat vertically and one coat horizontally.

We suggest applying two coats, so make sure the first coat is completely dry before you apply the second coat.

6.  Repeat step 5.
7.  Let the surface cure for 24 hours after the final coat.

This next step is very important as it conditions the surface to prepare it for usage.

8.  Lightly rub chalk over the entire surface that has been coated with the Chalkboard Coating and then erase it.

Now, it's ready to use!
