Jewelry Box Refinish with Chalk Paint

There are many items that become worn from constant use through the years but are not necessarily something you want to get rid of. Take a jewelry box, for instance. It is used daily, and the finish can show signs of wear. Do you want to replace it? Maybe not if it is still a functioning item. You can give it a fresh new look very easily with the very trendy chalk paint. I used the American Decor Chalky Finish paint and was amazed at how easy it was to transform the old wood laminate jewelry box into something very different looking. The paint goes a very long way and one pint would probably paint your entire dining room table! Other than the paint on the sides of the can, my paint can looks like I have not used it yet.

Supplies:
One Pint Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint
Americana Decor Matte Varnish
One Paint Brush
Fine Grit Sandpaper

Directions:
  1. Remove all items from your jewelry box then clean the wood surface with a wet rag.
  2. Gently shake the paint container to mix before using.
  3. Apply paint with paint brush and allow to dry. (This dries very quickly)
  4. Apply a second coat if needed and allow to dry.
  5. Clean paint brush with water.
  6. Sand the edges gently with fine grit sandpaper.
  7. Seal with the varnish.
  8. Clean brush .

The project was so easy and the only reason it took two evenings to finish was because I wanted to make sure the paint was set before sanding.  I also bought a brown wax to use on this project, but decided I like the look of the box without it. There does not seem to be a wrong way to use these products. Since the paint can is still full I am now looking for more items to paint.

Try this paint and you will be amazed at how easy and inexpensive it is to change your home decor.
