DIY BOO Candy Jars for Halloween

Use mason jars to make a boo-tiful candy display for Halloween! This project has been around for awhile, but it is definitely a favorite.  Fill these with treats and they would be perfect for my kitchen counter.

Supplies

• Mason Jars
• Candlestick Holders
• Wooden Coasters
• Wooden Letters
• Wooden Spools
• Beads
• Acrylic Paint
• Spray Paint
• Ribbon
• Adhesive
• Paintbrush
• Scissors

All supplies for this project can be found at our Bonney Lake store.

There are a variety of ways you can put this together, however, the two main items are the mason jar and  candlestick holders (wood, glass, etc.).

1.  Using the paintbrush, paint the wooden candlestick holder. If you have a glass (crystal) one, you could spray paint it, use Adirondack Alcohol Ink to give it color, or even cover it with glitter using Mod Podge.

2.  Once you have that done, set it aside to dry.

3.  Spray paint the outside of the mason jar lid to match the color of the candlestick holders. You may choose to use another form of paint if you do not want to use the spray paint.

4.  To stabilize the candlestick holders, glue the bottom of each one to a base, such as a wood coaster or a similar item. If the candlestick holders are large and sturdy, then you can skip this step. 

A coaster was added to the bottom for extra support.

5.  Using a strong adhesive, like E-6000, glue the bottom of the mason jar to the top part of the candlestick holder. 

6.  Set aside to let dry.

That was the main part of the project. Now, let's move onto the decorating!

For this project, Pershette first glued on a miniature wooden spool that she had painted black onto the middle top of the mason jar lid. Then, she stacked skull beads on top of the spool, gluing each one together. She finished it off with a little wooden candle cup.

You can replicate what Pershette has done to recreate the decorative lid, or gather the desired embellishments to make your own mason jar lid with your style in mind. 

7.  Using the paintbrush, paint the wooden letters that spell out the word "BOO."

8.  Set aside to let dry.

9.  Using scissors, measure and cut the amount of ribbon, in the color and style of your choice, to tie the letters onto the jars.

10.  Screw the lid onto the mason jars that are now adhered to the candlestick holders.

11.  Tie a ribbon around the knob of the mason jar lid.

12.  Then, hang a letter from each one of the knobs of the mason jar lid.

Now, just fill each jar with Halloween candy and it's ready to display!
