DIY Pallet Painting with ColorBox Inks

Did you know you could mix Colorbox Ink and Multi Medium and use as paint. Christy came up with this fun experimental project and we think it turned out great!

Supplies:
One Pallet Board
Colorbox Inks
Multi Medium Matte
Paint Pallet Tray
Paint Brush

Instructions:
Pour a small amount of Multi Medium Matte into the paint tray.
Drop in a tiny bit of ink and mix with your paint brush.
You may want to experiment on a piece of paper or a scrap of wood to decide how blended you want the ink and Multi Medium to be.
Now begin your painting. Since this is somewhat translucent, the grain of the wood surface with still be visible when you are finished.

DIY Room & Dorm Decor

The brand new coloring canvases by Johanna Basford come in a variety of designs from her Secret Garden book in 12x12" and 24x12" sizes. These canvases are primed with acid free acrylic gesso and ready for markers, pens or paint. Spend relaxing time coloring and when you are finished you will have art for your dorm room or bedroom.

We have a new line of high quality pens that work well with the coloring canvases.  The new Staedtler triplus fineliners come in a 36 count set and have a wide range of colors. These pens have a brush pen feel, good line quality and are dry safe which means you can leave these pens uncapped for days and the ink will still be fresh and flow freely.

DIY Jewelry - Photo Transfer on Polymer Clay

Make your own personalized jewelry! Use the photo transfer technique to create pieces that are unique.

Polymer Clay Photo Transfer Directions:
Open the package of polymer clay and knead until it is soft and pliable.
Roll out the polymer clay until flat and about 1/4" thin. You can use a rolling pin or a pasta attachment on your mixer. Cut the clay to fit the size of finding you are using.
Choose a photo or clip art image you want to use. If there is a definite right side you will want to reverse the image orientation on your computer. Size it to fit your project.
Print out an image on a printer that uses toner, office supply stores are very inexpensive for a print or two. (Home printers are typically inkjet and that will not work.)
Get the polymer clay wet and place the paper over it, image side down, then gently press down. Allow to dry.
Wet finger and gently rub the paper off they clay. Continue wetting finger and rubbing until all of the paper is gone and the image remains.
Place the polymer clay in a 200 degree oven and bake for 20 minutes.

Now create the jewelry -
Glue your clay piece into the rectangle finding.
Glue to finding to the filigree.
Finally, glue to filigree to the leaf and allow all to dry completely.

Add a jump ring to attach to a necklace or glue a pin to the back to wear as a pin.

Here are some other samples of polymer clay photo transfer projects. I love the way the clay holds the bright colors.

Introducing our new line of paint FolkArt Milk Paint.  The new Milk Paint by FolkArt is sure to be the next favorite product for furniture rehab.

FolkArt Milk Paint - Brushes like a stain, looks like a paint

Achieve farmhouse chic decor with FolkArt Milk Paint and Finishing Oils. A true casein-based paint, FolkArt Milk Paint comes in a convenient premixed, ready-to-use formula that brushes as smoothly as a stain but dries to a dead, flat finish—perfect for vintage furniture restoration and modern rustic decor pieces. Pair with FolkArt Finishing Oil to seal and protect your raw, stained, or milk-painted project.
- See more at: https://www.plaidonline.com/milk-paint/brand/detail.htm#sthash.UzdRKkrD.dpuf

Plaid - "This line of gorgeous colors are true casein-based paints that brush on as smoothly as a stain but dry to a beautiful flat finish. Unlike the typical powdered ready-to-mix milk paint, FolkArt Milk Paint won't spoil, nor will it fade over time or chip and peel because it was specifically formulated to absorb directly into a porous surface!"

Here is a video of a furniture makeover using Milk Paint.

How To Make A Hand Lettered Beach House Sign

The beach house needed a welcome sign, so it was time to come up with a weekend project.  I wanted to hand letter the words because the stencils just did not have the style of writing that I was looking for.

Supplies:
One Unfinished Wooden Sign With Rope
Grey Paint
Black Paint
Matte Varnish
Blue Acrylic Paint Pen
Graphite Paper
Sand Paper

Directions:
  1. Paint your wood sign in grey paint and allow to dry.
  2. I wanted a worn and weathered look so I applied a black wash to the board next. This can be done by watering down your paint, use a dry brush and apply some paint sparingly to the board. You can wipe off with a rag if there is too much paint in areas.
  3. Allow this to dry completely.
  4. Print out the word in a font that you like with your computer and printer.
  5. Use graphite paper to transfer your words to the painted board by placing the graphite paper on your board, put the printed words on top and trace the letters with a pencil.
  6. Now paint in the letters with the blue acrylic paint pen and allow to dry.
  7. I sanded parts of the entire board including the letters to complete the worn look I wanted.
  8. The final step was to apply a matte varnish to seal the sign.
