DIY Reclaimed Ruler Side Table with Americana Decor Chalky Paint

Do you like the shabby chic chalk paint trend? It's easy to create that look with the Americana Decor Chalky Paint! You can turn an old flea market piece of furniture into a new home decor accent that all your friends will envy!

Our guest blogger, Susan Mathison at Country Design Home, with Lisa from RitaJosVintage’s assistance, created this cute little reclaimed side table using nothing more than some Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint and Varnish by DecoArt, wood glue, a brad nailer, painter’s tape and of course, rulers - some for actually measuring and the remainder for decoration.

DIY Hexagon Paper House Owl Frame

Are you looking for a quick and simple project that would give a touch of color to a wall or a table? This super easy craft is for you! All you'll need are these cute hexagon frames, scrapbook paper and these adorable Owl 3D stickers by Paper House.

Use Hexagonal Frame with Paper House 3D Owl Stickers
Use an Hexagon Frame with Paper House 3D Owl Stickers

Here's what you'll need... (all these supplies are available at our Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame Shop store in Bonney Lake, WA).

• Scrapbook Paper
• Hexagon Unfinished Frames
• Acrylic Paint
• Owl 3D Stickers by Paper House
• Mod Podge Rocks and Foam Brush
• Scissors and Pencil
• Foam Double Sided Tape

Let's get started...
1. Remove the back from the hexagon frame. Place the back onto your paper. Use your pencil to trace around it. With your scissors, cut the paper. Use Mod Podge as your glue to adhere the paper to the back piece. Apply the Mod Podge on the paper first, then apply the Mod Podge to the back piece. Once both have Mod Podge on it, glue together. For more information on how to apply Mod Podge, click here. Let dry completely.
2. Use your foam brush to paint the frame. You may need to apply two coats. Let dry between each coat.
3. Put the frame back together. Now see where you'd like to adhere your Owl embellishments. Once you have your arrangement decided, use the double sided foam tape to adhere all the pieces to the back of your frame.

Easy Sewing Project: Envelope Pillow Covers

A complete room remodel can get expensive, but often a few small changes can change the look of the room. Adding pillows or even changing the existing ones may be just the right choice to update your decor. AKA Design shared this easy DIY project that uses fat quarters and scraps. The envelope style means that you will not need to add a zipper. The sewing is basic straight lines! What a perfect sewing project for anyone to finish in an afternoon with time to spare for relaxing.

Easy Envelope Pillows

Supplies
  • 1 fat quarter per pillow
  • neutral fabric for back of pillow
  • 16″ pillow form
  • thread
  • sewing machine (or needle and thread)
  • scissors
  • pins
*You can use other sized of pillow forms, of course. But for the purposes of this tutorial, measurements are based on a 16″ pillow form.

Step-by-step Directions:
1. Cut fat quarter piece to 17″x17″.
2. Cut neutral fabric into two pieces each measuring 17″x12.5″.
3. Fold end over on each of the two neutral fabric pieces and press with iron. Sew down hem.

hemming pillow back

4. Pin pieces together, right sides facing each other.  The fat quarter piece should be your guide for the pillow size. The neutral pieces will overlap about 4″.

5. Sew all the way around perimeter using a 1/2″ seam allowance. Be sure to back-stitch at the beginning and end to keep the stitching from coming unraveled. To go around a corner, while needle is in fabric about 1/2″ from edge, lift presser foot and turn fabric. Put presser foot back down and continue sewing.

6. Trim corners, so they aren’t bulky.

7. Turn right side out, press with iron and stuff with pillow form!

You can do this for all sizes and shapes of pillows, just add a half inch seam allowance on all sides and make sure you have at least 4 inches (if not more) overlap on the back side.

Christmas in July DIY Bead Project

Beaded jewelry projects make great Christmas gifts. They do, however, take time to make. So plan ahead and start now to create holiday gifts for the jewelry lovers on your list. You will finish them in time to enjoy the holiday season!
Alternate red, green and white beads to create this festive bracelet that is perfect for the holiday season.

This Christmas Bracelet tutorial is brought to you by Panderhall Learning Center.

Supplies Needed:
4mm Swarovski Crystal Beads (Green & Red)
Seed Beads (white)
End Piece
S-Hook Clasp
Jump Rings
Tiger Tail Wire
Side Cutting Pliers

Directions:
Step 1: bead the basic component in Row 1
To complete the basic component, as is shown in following diagram:
- Cut a strand of 150cm Tiger Tail wire, and then string beads on in this order:
 seed bead, green Swarovski crystal, seed bead, red Swarovski crystal and seed bead;
- Next,  cross two wire ends through another Red Swarovski Crystal;
- Third, reverse the order and duplicate the previous beads group;
- Finally, to each end add one seed bead and similarly cross through one more  seed bead.

Step 2: repeat to complete Row 1
Repeat the above basic component until get an ideal length for your Christmas bracelet. Notice the detail circled on last beads group.

Step 3: create the new second Row
In this portion, just refer to the previous processes for row 1. Pay attention: in order to connect two rows naturally, you need to share the middle line red Swarovski crystal beads and seed bead in row 1.
Repeat the processes and you will do the Christmas bracelet main body.
Step 4: add on clasp and end piece
Attach two jump rings on both ends seed bead loop and then hook on the clasp.
